New
York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center
Upcoming Events and Programs
November 28, 2012
The museum's largest and most ambitious exhibit for 2013 will be "Empire for
Union." This exhibit, opening in March, 2013, will be our major effort in
commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial. A tremendous thanks must
be given to the efforts of Lance Ingmire and the Friends of the NYS Military
Museum for raising the funds which make this exhibit possible. A special
thanks goes again to the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust for their
considerable support to the Military Museum.
"Empire for Union" will focus on New York State's considerable military role
in the Civil War. Sections will include the Battle of Bull Run (1861), New
York State Zouaves, Martial Music, Battle of Antietam (1862), New York's
foreign born soldiers, Made in New York (military equipment, weapons, etc.
made in NY), New York photographers, Battle of Gettysburg, New York Draft
riots, Health & Medicine, Camp Life, Battle of the Wilderness (1864),
Prisoners & Prisons, Bureau of Military Statistics (our forbearer), Sanitary
Commission and Relief Efforts, Appomattox Campaign (1865), and Veterans and
Their Legacy. This will be an exciting, artifact rich exhibit. We are
planning a docent training program for the new exhibit. Details to be
announced.
Your continued support of the New York State Military Museum and Veterans
Research Center is very much appreciated.
